The Josep Carreras Institute (IJC)member of CataloniaBio & HealthTech, has received the provisional resolution of accreditation as a Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities. The IJC is one of the 10 institutions that have received accreditation in the 2023 call, placing it among the best research centers in the country based on excellence, scientific contributions, talent attraction capacity, and economic and social impact, among others.

This recognition highlights the excellent research carried out at the institute, its ongoing collaborations, and its commitment to society, which have resulted in the incorporation of hundreds of professionals in recent years, fundraising, the sustainability of the structural budget, and the leadership of major international projects.

The prestigious Severo Ochoa accreditation will contribute to increasing the international visibility of the center, as well as the scientific, social, and economic impact of its research results. In addition, it ensures funding for the new Strategic Plan of the IJC, with the aim of consolidating its capabilities and contributing to scientific leadership.

The director of the Institute, Dr. Manel Esteller, has expressed his gratitude for the accreditation and commented that it is "a recognition of the work of the last five years of the staff of our young institute."

Meanwhile, Ana Garrido, strategic director and acting manager of the IJC, values that "the sum of small efforts has resulted in a great reward, a successful result that represents a before and after for our institute. As Pablo Neruda said, if you don't climb the mountain, you will never be able to enjoy the landscape. I thank the entire IJC team for having climbed it with us."
